What Is It Like To Have Treatment?

Q. Will the treatments hurt?

A. We are focused on patient comfort at Missouri Vein Care! We take many steps to ensure your comfort. Before and during the procedure, we provide relaxation medication in both pill and IV form to ensure your comfort. During the laser treatment, a numbing solution is used for comfort. At Missouri Vein Care, we take pride in making your experience a comfortable and positive one!

Q. Will there be discomfort after the procedure?

A. There may be mild discomfort as the treated veins complete the process of closing off. If needed, Tylenol is usually all that is needed for discomfort. After treatment, our patients also take Ibuprofen for several days to minimize inflammation and promote healing.

Q. Will I be awake during the procedure?

A. You will have “conscious sedation” meaning you will be relaxed and comfortable during your treatment. You can carry on a conversation, tell stories or some people prefer to take a nap. It’s up to you – let us know what you prefer!

Q. Why can’t all my veins be treated at one visit?

A. There is a medical limit to how much numbing medication that can be given at one time. This requires more than one treatment for certain vein problems.

Q. How long will it take spider veins to fade away?

A. Complete disappearance takes from several weeks to several months depending on the extent of the spider veins.

Q. Do spider vein injections hurt?

A. We use a numbing spray on the areas to be treated so that discomfort is minimized. Patients also have the option of using a numbing cream on the areas to be treated.

Q. Do I have to wear compression stockings after laser procedures?

A. Wearing medical grade stockings for a period of 30 days after laser procedures is very important to ensure permanent closure of the laser treatments.

Q. I have tried stockings before, how do I keep them up?

A. Although this has been a common problem, there is now a special adhesive available that successfully holds up the stocking and keeps them from rolling down

Q. Will there be scars?

A. All of our procedures are done with micro-incisions using a small needle. And injections are also accomplished with a very tiny needle. There is essentially no visible scarring, leaving the best result possible!

Q. How long will I have to be off work after a procedure?

A. Normally you can return to work and your normal routine the very next day. We know that being off work can create stress, and we will work with you to minimize missing work. Let us know what your job requirements are, and we will work with you to get you back to work ASAP!

Q. How soon can I exercise after the procedure?

A. We want you to walk daily beginning the day of your procedure. You can begin exercising the next day, but we recommend that you refrain from high-impact aerobics or resistance weight lifting for one week. Ask us if you have more questions about this.

Q. How long will it take before I can expect to have my legs looking and feeling great?

A. It is a process that can take several weeks to months for all your veins to close down and completely disappear. This will vary depending on your individual vein condition.
